This Wednesday two bands with geographically related names play at a venue with a mathematically related name (go figure). New Haven’s The Fictional West will be joined on January 20th by Albany, NY’s the Coast of Nebraska for a rock show at Cafe 9. Aside from the geographic relation, both bands have a deceptive alt-country ring to their name. In truth the Coast of Nebraska’s sound has more in common with David Bowie or Suede than anything from, say, Uncle Tupelo. The Fictional West fits their name slightly better, if only for the gentle big sky feel of their music. Either way, this pairing seems to be matched well and on several different levels. You can check out The Fictional West’s new single ‘Giant Clouds’ available for free via Tweefort Records. Opening the night will be last minute addition Jesse Tobias.
