This Sunday, April 3rd a benefit concert will be held at Toad’s Place for Mitchell Dubey, a local musician, bike enthusiast and, from virtually all accounts, all-around great guy who was shot and killed on March 24th during a botched home invasion at his Bassett Street, New Haven apartment. Performing at the benefit concert will be some of Dubey’s favorite bands including The Flaming Tsunamis (whom Dubey followed back to CT from Los Angeles), Call It Arson (who will be reuniting for this show), My Heart to Joy (their 2nd to last show ever), Slingshot Dakota and Brunt of It. Tickets will go on sale today at 6pm via eTix who will be waving their usual service fees in light of this tragedy. In addition, Toad’s Place will not be taking a cut of ticket sales, ultimately insuring that Mitch Dubey’s family will receive ALL proceeds generated by the show. Due to the overwhelming reaction from the local community so far this show will most likely sell out so make sure you purchase tickets early. If you are unable to attend, donations can still be made to Mitch Dubey’s family via Paypal at the address Lauren.Dubey@gmail.com.

In case you might have forgot, tonight marks the first of two shows at Toad’s Place for reunited ska-punk heroes Spring Heeled Jack.
Opening for the group will be Connecticut’s own Tip The Van and Boston’s The Organ Beats and Mello Bravo, which together with S.H.J. should make a great billing. According to late word from the show’s organizers, tonight’s show is completely sold out. Don’t fret though because tickets are still available for tomorrow night’s show featuring openers The Pietasters, We Are The Union and Make Do And Mend. According to Asbestos Records head Matt Flood, new merch from the band, including some reissues, will be available at each show:
‘Also we’ll definitely have copies of Both Static World View, and Songs from Suburbia available for sale at the shows .. with highly improved artwork from New Haven’s own Todd Rogers (also a long time Tune Inn Employee). The records are limited to just 500 copies each, theres’ a handful of copies available at www.asbestosrecords.bigcartel.com if you can’t make the shows. They’ll be a limited hand screened & signed show poster by Rob Dobi (limited to 200 pieces) available at the show as well as some classic tshirts.’
If you’re looking for a trip down memory lane when the Tune Inn was the place to be in New Haven and everybody was in a ska band, as well as some kick ass music from some kick as bands, look no further.

In case you haven’t heard the news already, New Haven’s favorite ska band of yore, Spring Heeled Jack, will be reuniting for a show at Toad’s Place on Friday, May 7th. Having attended their last reunion show at Toad’s Place in 2002 (which resulted in yours truly being pummeled by a stealthy stage-diver), I can say with confidence that any show by this band would be both highly anticipated and highly recommended. And anticipated it is. According to Asbestos Records head Matt Flood (who will be reissuing Spring Heeled Jack’s two full-length albums on vinyl this Spring), ticket sales for the show have been robust:
“Hey boys & girls… a little birdie told me that ticket sales have been really good, and there aren’t many tickets left … hit up http://www.etix.com and get yours as soon as possible if you want to catch the show… and to everyone who’s been asking.. all the tickets are through etix, i can’t hold ’em, save ’em or get you on the guestlist. Don’t miss out!”
You heard the man! Get your tickets while you still can!
