Manic Productions presents Grandchildren, M.T. Bearington @ BAR, April 20th

The latest installment of Manic Productions‘ free weekly show series at BAR arrives this Wednesday, April 20th with Philly’s Grandchildren and New Haven’s M.T. Bearington.

Grandchildren

Many may remember Grandchildren’s previous New Haven performance at Cafe Nine last November (also a Manic show) for the group’s cacophonous arrangements, significant usage of percussion and complex yet tight vocal melodies. Since then Grandchildren have gained some pretty good momentum on the east-coast club circuit, most recently opening a series of shows for Brookyln’s O’Death. In addition their live show itself has gained a ‘spectacle-to-behold’ like stature amongst indie-rock audiences. This group seems poised for bigger and better things so be sure to catch them right in your own backyard this Wednesday for FREE.

M.T. Bearington

Opening the night will be New Haven indie-popsters M.T. Bearington. For this show Matt Thomas and company will be celebrating the vinyl release of their highly anticipated new LP Love Buttons on Safety Meeting Records. After the release of the first M.T. Bearington album, 2008’s Cloak of Nouns and Loss (which was mainly a Matt Thomas solo effort), M.T. Bearington became a full-on band (and a pretty good one at that) and as such have dedicated a lot of energy into making Love Buttons a ‘band’ album. And from most early accounts, they have been wildly successful in doing so. A limited edition of 300 vinyl LPs will be available (which you can pre-order through Safety Meeting) so make sure you get your copy early!

What better way to celebrate 4/20 than with some great live music??

Manic Productions presents New Free Wednesday Night Series @ BAR

Starting next Wednesday, January 5th, New Haven’s hardest working show promoter Manic Productions will be presenting a new free weekly series at famed downtown club/bar/pizzeria, BAR.

Many may remember the long and healthy run held Sunday nights at BAR by fellow promoter Shaki Presents, a run that was unceremoniously brought to an end by the venue’s owner in December ’09. At the time BAR was unimpressed by the attendance at the Sunday night shows and wanted to move to more a more mainstream audience on Wednesday nights. A year later, and with little promotion put into those Wednesday night shows (and even less attendance), it appears that BAR may have realized that they were better off with outside help. ‘Manic’ Mark Nussbaum of Manic Productions broke the news this past November:

“I am very excited for this announcement! I have been asked recently by my friend Oliver (of Plume Giant) to start setting up shows on Wednesday nights at BAR. Since the last Shaki Presents show on Sunday December 20, Oliver has continued bringing music to the bar on Wednesday nights (mostly local bands). The series begins in January 2011 and will be held every Wednesday night…”

So far six installments of the series have been booked, with more on the way soon. And based on Manic Productions reputation for bringing consistently impressive talent to the New Haven area, all of them will most likely be must-see shows.

Here’s the schedule so far:
(all shows are 21+, free and start at 9pm unless otherwise noted)

1/5 – The Beets, Wry, Eula, 1/12 – Elizabeth & The Catapult, Even Artichokes Have Hearts, 1/19 – Sharon Van Etten, Plume Giant, 1/26 – Jarrod Gorbel (of the Honorary Title), M.T. Bearington (solo), John Parson, 2/2 – Joan of Arc, American Cloud Songs, The World Is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, 2/9 – Delicate Steve, Jamestown The First Town In America
